Multiresolution analysis of optical burst switching traffic

چکیده
In this paper, a Multiresolution Analysis is conducted in order to study the self-similar features of Optical Burst Switching (OBS) traffic. The scenario consists of an OBS backbone with input traffic from a large number of Internet users, that generate Poisson-arriving heavytailed bursts. The results show that long-range dependence is preserved at timescales longer than the burst assembly timeout value while the traffic variability at short timescales is increased.

Stochastic Analysis of Finite Population Bufferless Multiplexing in Optical Packet/Burst Switching Systems
In this letter, we study the blocking probabilities in an asynchronous optical packet/burst switching system with full wavelength conversion. Most of the existing work use Poisson traffic models that is well-suited for an infinite population of users. In this letter, the optical packet traffic arriving at the switching system is modeled through a superposition of a finite number of identical on...
متن کاملAn Analytical Study of Optical Burst Switching Aggregation Strategies
Optical Burst Switching (OBS) is considered as a promising switching technique for the next generation of optical networks. A solid understanding of the characteristics of OBS traffic is the prerequisite to efficiently address a series of problems such as network dimensioning, performance optimization, routing and load balancing. In this paper we address this issue presenting the first exact an...

This paper presents a summary of Optical Burst Switching (OBS) research within the VI framework program e-Photon/ONe network of excellence. The paper includes network aspects such as routing techniques, resilience and contention resolution, together with burst switch architectures. On the other hand, we also discuss traffic analysis issues, Quality of Service (QoS) schemes, TCP/IP over OBS and ...
متن کاملEffect of Ingress Buffering on Self-Similarity of Optical Burst Traffic
Recently, optical burst switching and aggregated optical packet switching have gained significant exposure as possible future mechanisms for routing aggregated IP traffic over all-optical core networks. However, the limited buffering capacity in all-optical networks presents a major challenge, as current IP traffic displays strong selfsimilar properties. Reducing the burst loss rate of such lon...
متن کاملOn linear prediction of Internet traffic for packet and burst switching networks
In this paper, we show that prediction algorithms in the least mean square error sense prove better in a burst rather than in a packet switching network. For the latter, further information about the packet arrival distribution within the prediction interval is required. Regarding burst switching, we compare Optical Burst Switching networks with and without linear prediction to conclude that li...
